Research Memo #3

The reason as to why I chose this specific video is because it demonstrates how individuals are affected from not being able to marry someone of the same sex. The overall video is an advertisment to legalize same sex marriage. For example, the video states "what is the thing you loved was illegal?" it obviously shows that many people have to face this fact. Later in the video you can see there is a women who seems as if she is depressed this demonstrates how various other individuals feel because of the fact that same sex marriage is illegal. Most importantly, the last phrase which states "legalize love" protrays that indeed this is not anythinng wrong.

The song "Born this Way" explains a controversial topic  . Throughout the video you can see that she sings "baby I was born this way" this supports the idea that people who have the preference for their same sex cannot help what they feel. Most people choose to be gay and therefore aren't purposely going against god. It is scientificly proven that people are born gay and cannot help it. this song does more then explain gay people it also desribes rich people, poor people, transgender people and bisexual people. The world is changing and there are now more then just straight, there are all diffrent kinds of people and we as america should be open ot it all.

research memo 2

My topic was same sex marriage and why or if it should be legalized in every state. In research that  I found, most states haven’t yet legalized it because of biblical reasons, which are mostly southern states. The question that I wanted to answer with this research was if state and church is separated why not make same sex marriage legal? While looking at this subject, I found many controversial opinions.
While researching this topic, I found a lot of hate from people on same sex marriage and took the time to look at this website No Same Sex Marriage, even though it was against what I thought, just to see the other side of the story and what reasons they would have for not wanting to legalize same sex marriage. According to Dr. James Dobson, an anti gay marriage activist, stated “With the legalization of homosexual marriage, every public school in the nation will be required to teach that this perversion is the moral equivalent of traditional marriage between a man and a woman.” Dr. James Dobson had many arguments on why same sex marriages should be ill-legal in every state. I feel that if marriage in all different shapes and sizes cannot be taught then marriage in general shouldn’t be mentioned.

Along with all the anti-same sex marriage I found many supporters of this. Not legalizing same sex marriage is “Denying them is a violation of religious freedom”, “encourages people to have strong family values and give up high-risk sexual lifestyles” and “is a form of minority discrimination”. (Messerli1) I agree more with this statements especially that not legalizing same sex marriage is a form of discrimination and isn’t fair to all the same sex couples who are in love and can not get married and experience a family together. If gay marriage were past it could benefit America in many ways. Some being giving homes to children who don’t have a mom or dad. Most adoption agency’s won’t allow a single parent to adopt a child so without same sex marriage being legalized this is giving up many children’s chance of being in a actual home and being part of an actual family.
Same sex marriage is an issue I am deeply concerned. I truly believe everyone should have the right to marry the one the love, man or women. After looking at both sides of the argument and reading why some people may not be as accepting of I respect them for how they believe but I still  truly believe everyone should have the right to marry the one the love, man or women.

Research Memo #1

Hypothesis: Should same sex marriage be legalized in every state? As of right now, there are only 6 states and the United States that have legalized same sex marriage. That means if a same sex couple wanted to get married they would most likely have to travel far up country since most of the states that legalized same sex marriage are up north. I believe same sex marriage should be legalized in every state. Same sex couples should have the same privileges to be with the person they love as a traditional couple. America is supposed to be all about equality, if this is true no one should be discriminated against for who they choose to love.

Context: My target audience for this research project was mainly people from ages 15-30. I did get surveys from a few people older than this age range because I was really interested in how they felt on this subject. I chose to do people from this age group because I feel they can relate to this topic more than older people could because when most older people were growing up they didn’t deal with this issue as much. I feel my results are valid because I had surveys taken by people from various age groups. I don’t feel that this information is biased at all because I asked simple questions and mainly just asked for there opinion.

Data Analysis: Based on my survey results I found that most younger people thought that same sex marriage should be legalized in every state, while a few felt same sex couples was wrong all together. For age groups 20-30 it was half and half. Half of them believed that same sex marriage is a problem and should be legalized and the other half felt it shouldn’t. When I asked why the people who felt it shouldn’t be legalized why they felt this way there where two main responses; “it’s against my religious beliefs” and “it’s just not right”. Almost 100% of the no someone who has been affected by the same sex marriage laws.

Conclusion: From my results I found that the younger generation of people supported same sex marriage more than people of the   older people.
